July Viewpoint
Thank you to outgoing DG Gael Bohannon for inducting our new members, Helene Cameron and Wilma Tilly and for also installing our officers at our June 15th dinner. Also that evening, awards for Lion of the Year were given to Lions Jim Tilly and Bob Well. Life memberships were awarded to PDG Jerry Wheeler and Lion Kye Roth. A special certificate for 48 years of Lionism was awarded to Lion Henry Hallgren’s widow, Esther. Presidential Appreciation Awards were given to Lions Rosemary Stallings, Harold Suchan, Vern Klotzbuecher, Elta Morgan, and Rick Foort. The Unsung Hero Award went to Lion Bob Rose. Our High Flyer Award, for stretching his wings beyond our club went to outgoing ZC Joe Oriente, who is now our vice district governor. Congratulations to everyone!
Our July 20th meeting will be held at the usual place, Evergreen Lanes at 7 PM. Planning for the meetings for the year, including goals and ideas for programs and budget, will take place. I know that treasurer, Harold Suchan, is activating a budget committee and input would be appropriate now. If you can’t be there and have a really great idea for any of the above areas, please give me a call (425)337-0959 or email: ex_teach@hotmail.com (underscore between x and t).
We are waiting for the summer weather that we enjoyed in February. That would b helpful for our picnic in August. Still working on that plan.
Yours in Lionism, Carol
August Corn Booth Date
South Everett’s date for the Corn Booth is Friday, August 26th from 10 AM – 2 PM. We have a crew for that date, so thank you if you signed up in June. Bob Well will have tickets for members working that shift at the July meeting. However, we’ve been asked to try to come up with a group, or part of a group for a shift on Monday, August 29th from 2 PM – 6 PM. If you can work at the Corn Booth during this time, please call or email me soon, like next week. The Smiths, who are taking over the Corn Booth operations from the Ferns are requesting our help. Opportunities for Service
Our treasurer, Harold Suchan wears a second hat in our club, that of checking out our requests for eyeglasses. He has requested that another member take over this responsibility. It involves a phone call and sending out our club form for brief information, then calling back the candidate to notify them of their status after a board meeting. Please consider taking over this responsibility for our club.
Lion Sabrina Walker, has been contacting hearing aid establishments with the goal of establishing a partner for our club to offer hearing aid assistance in our service area. She is unable to continue pursuing this due to family obligations. So, we also need a volunteer in our club willing to carry on her work. Information if being considered at one hearing aid establishment and she will give you updates on others contacted. Please also consider taking over this responsibility.
If no response for either of these opportunities takes place, I will be calling members.
Bits and Pieces
Penny Jar…don’t forget to feed the penny jar and build up our administrative fund.
Dues???...Is it time to raise our dues? No one wants to do this, but International and MD19 have each raised our dues to them in the past years. SEL has not, consequently our admin. Fund is being short changed. Something to consider.
MD19 Fall Forum…will be in Abbotsford, B.C. on Oct. 7 & 8, 2005.
VDGE Joe Oriente’s snapshot was seen in the May/June Border Crossing carrying MD19’s banner at the May Convention in Spokane. Good work, Joe!
Special Olympics…At our very short board meeting on June 15th, it was decided to send $100.00 for the Special Olympics to the Everett Police Department.
Congratulations…to Rosemary Stallings who is enjoying her first grandchild, Alex Aaron, born in June. Also, congratulations to Helene Cameron, who has another great grandchild.
