June Viewpoint

Some notes of thanks for our hard working members this spring is certainly due as we wind down the activities of our club. Our Spring Pancake Breakfast in April was a resounding success because everyone pitched in. Thank you everyone! Final ticket sales amounted to $65l.00. Also we made $136.00 on the raffle and $30.24 on the jam sale. 114 people were served that day. A special thank you to Lions Jim and Wilma for obtaining/picking up/delivering  donations; to Lion Elta for beautiful hand-worked raffle items; to those who donated additional raffle items; to Lion Rosemary for putting them together in baskets (and then winning one of them);to Lion Wilma who made the delicious jam for our sale; to all the hard-working wait staff, kitchen staff, and ticket sellers; to those who set up and then cleaned up afterward (especially Bob Rose). Special thanks go the the Tilly’s daughter Jodie, and the Foort’s daughter Danielle and her friend Jamie for helping out during the event.

Thank you to the following Lions who supported our many May events and projects.

·          May 5th’s Zone Meeting at Sky Mt. Lions in Skykomish. Supporting ZC Joe’s last meeting were Lions Jill, Millie, Bill, Rosemary, and Carol. Lots of fun!

·          May 7th  – White Cane Days, TOPS in Everett. Those working were Bob Well (table set up), Rosemary, Rick, Carol, Elta, Mary, Jerry, Len, Jim, Bill, Millie, and Sabrina (chairperson). We made $280.75 at this location.

·          May 13thPlanting Pots in downtown Everett. Happy planters were Lions Rosemary, Carol, Sabrina, Bill, Millie, and Jim & Wilma. It was reported that SEL plantings haven’t died as yet and that our work was appreciated.

·          Everett Central’s 85th Anniversary Dinner was attended by 14 SEL members and guests. The food was declared tasty by most of those attending and it was an entertaining evening, even if Ev. Central president, Gary Councilman, won nearly all the prizes.

·          May 26t – CHS Scholarship Night-Lion Rick awarded two $700.00 scholarship awards to two grateful senior boys: Terry Raynes and Sayon Srey.

·           .

You should be proud of your accomplishments as SE Lions.                                   Lion Carol <ex_teach@hotmail.com>

         Remembering Lion Henry Hallgren

On May 16, 2005 SEL lost a 48 year devoted Lion, Henry A. “Hank” Hallgren. He was born on April 17th, 1910 in Seattle and was reared in rural Granite Falls. This past April, he celebrated his 95th birthday.

Many fond memories of Henry abound in our club. He attended his last meeting with is wife, Esther, at our February Sweetheart Dinner. He was active behind the scenes in every club project whether it was the pancake breakfast, the fireworks stand, the flag hanging project, planning picnics, building sign boards and saw horses for the Lady Lions’ rummage sales. I hear those saw horses extended their life at the Granite Falls Lions Bingo Parlor. I know that there are many additional memories of Henry’s fine Lions work.

Henry was also a member of the Everett Eagles

and a 65 year member of the Carpenter’s Local #562.

Besides his wife Esther, he leaves two sons, Carl (Kathleen) Hallgren, of Seattle, and Gordon (Lynne) Hallgren of Snohomish; two grandsons, Nick and Chris; sister, Esther Askelson of Edmonds; and several nieces and nephews.

Many thanks go to Henry for being part of the back bone of our club for so many long years. We shall miss him dearly.

     Installation/Initiation/Awards Banquet

Bobbie says there will be no problem at our dinner because an extra wait person will be on staff that evening because of our event. We discussed the menu and the input was that two menu selections would be best for the kitchen staff. So selections will be prime rib or sweet & sour chicken. Cost will be $16.95/person, including tip (but not tax). There will be a sign up sheet at our June 1st meeting so think about and decide your and your guest’s dinner choices by then. Start time will be 6 PM. DG Gael Bohannon will return as our initiator/ officer installer. Plan to laugh a lot!

Officers being installed are: pres.-Carol Foort, 1VP- Dixon Marshall, 2VP-Tom Knowlton, Sec.-Rosemary Stallings, Treas.-Harold Suchan, Tail Twister-Sabrina Walker, Lion Tamer-Bill Motteler, Directors-Rick Foort, Elta Morgan, Len Olsen
